DNS server not responding

although it was the router. these lights dont prove it was the router

Surely it highlights an issue as these lights were always illuminated before so presumably some form of damage had occurred somewhere as they were no longer working??

And it was def the modem router that was bugger.. Put a new netgear modem router on today and all is fine and dandy :)

nope. the lights indicate a connection between you and the exchange.
if either end or the middle is broken, the light wont be on.



now if the power light doesnt come on the modem, then thats definitely a fault at your end.
