Thanks Ben, Internet Explorer is my default browser, I downloaded Google Chrome to replace it, which I thought I had done, but in Internet options it has IE as my default browser, how do I replace it with Google Chrome and if I do am I going to lose any data or email stuff, I've already lost all my Contacts.
How can I get back to W7 and not lose any data, I tried Recovery but it says I have no Back up disk or files from W7, I thought backup was automatic, but what would I know, Regards frank.

    Hi Tank

to revert back to win 7 click on the START button, select SETTINGS Then RECOVERY, there should be 3 options, you want to select "GO BACK TO WINDOWS 7"***

This will take you back to the state your PC was in before upgrading to win 10, all your data & programs will be as they were before the upgrade

***Note the roll back feature is only valid for 1 month - after that it can not be done and the option will no longer show up.

In regard to chrome you need to make sure you have installed the chrome file that you have downloaded to load the application to your pc. once you have installed chrome just run it and it will ask you if you want to make it the default browser. installing chrome will not affect any of your existing data or email.

I have found windows 10 to be fairly stable operating system and any PC running win8/8.1 should have no issues or performance problems with upgrading to win 10. Windows 7 upgrades i have had a few minor issues but most of the time can be sorted out. Older low spec PC's running windows 7 that have been upgraded have had the most issues & reverting them back to win 7 using the above method has been the best bet in my opinion.

The most important thing I can recommend is that you have a backup of data you don't want to loose. A copy of your photos on a usb stick & a copy on you PC is a simple enough solution. HDDs fail - even brand new ones.

It seems the Win10 driver has remained even though I've returned to Win 8.1, the Notebook is now an expensive brick.

    Thanks Microsoft Windows 10.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Alternatively, I hear there is another fella around here that is pretty good with this stuff...... Dr Incisor...any thoughts?
I was onto HP online chat who did everything I had already done. Then at the end of his personal knowledge base told me to re-boot the machine and tap the F2 key continuously.

That's when I found out I had lost all the F keys as well.

Thanks again Ben, my problem is that the start button only works if I right click on it, it opens in a box with a few things to click on, Settings is not one of them, Regards Frank.

See my Win 10 thread: http://www.aulro.com/afvb/computers/...esnt-work.html

I upgraded my HP notebook to Win 10 and 18 keys stopped working. Now they still don't work even though I went back to Win 8.1 and even the keyboard driver installer fails to install updated drivers.

Hmmmm, doesn't sound good, one more thing to try:

does the search feature still work? type "recovery options" in the search field located next to the start button. then click on "recovery options" This should take you straight the the "go back to win 7" feature without using the start button.
