Anyone using a Samsung Galaxy Note 5 ?

I want to upgrade to a Note 5 (from an S4 phone) but Telstra (and everyone else) only seem to offer the 32Gb version.

I think that given there is no SD card slot in the phone, 32Gb is likely to be insufficient.

I'd like to hear from anyone who is using a Note 5 and whether they've found 32Gb to be sufficient, especially in regards to having a music collection on there.

    Thanks

As users who keep a lot of stuff on the phone (pictures, videos, music), we're steering clear of the Note 5 at the moment. 32GB doesn't cut it, and Samsung Australia have made a mistake there.

You can get the gold (yuck!) colour around in 64GB, but at a little bit of a premium.

People who I have spoken to believe that they will be bringing the 64GB version of the standand colour range into Australia in the next couple of months, due to people not being happy with just 32GB and no MicroSD.

We wanted to upgrade my wife's phone (Note 2) to the 5, but waiting until they bring a 64GB version in, otherwise we'll go for a Note 4. I'm currently running a Note 3 that I'm still very happy with (other than the fact that it's an n9007, the esoteric Optus version that doesn't follow the n9005 OS upgrade path).

    Well I hope that's true !

Telstra tell me that they can put me on a mailing list and will tell me IF they begin selling the 64Gb version. IF not when. ******.

Don't you hate it when you know exactly what you want, and nobody will sell it to you! (No I'm not keen on paying full price for a phone -especially a gold one - up front. I need it on a plan)

My current phone I am using about 13 Gb, but that's not with much music. I'd also like to keep a few vehicle manuals on it (for the ute and bike). Not sure how big those PDF's are.

depending on how/what you want to store on the phone you can use the wifi/bluetooth network ability and a wifi/blutooth NAS compatible external hard drive to provide a local cloud base storage solution and then run something like ESfile manager to access the hard drive storage...

hows 1TB+ of on vehicle storage sound?

I used a similar setup mounted off of the maintenance truck for the units I was supporting by running a WIFI router with a couple of Gb worth of storage plugged into it. this was back when phones topped out at 16GB, 8 was good 4 was normal and 1~2 was the pov pack for storage.

with the new range of smaller usb powered 2TB NAS compatible drives Im looking at how to do it as a bike mountable/backpackable format.

We have been using one of these for a while now, with a 1TB drive installed, there's plenty of movies for the kids and additional music for us while we're driving/camping. Brilliant bit of kit, and really cheap.

Yes but the whole point is it's a MOBILE phone - shouldn't need to drag other crap around with it. Or need to rely on access to the 'cloud' (especially in a big country like ours).

    It's a joke.

I tend to agree. but sometimes you dont need all the storage on the phone all the time, you can get OTG 128gB usb sticks that you can stick everything on and just use a caching app to bring in the stuff you need right now and to export the least recently used stuff back to the stick.

    best bit is..

if you kill the phone or drown it or loose it you dont loose everything.

I'll admit that I paid the extra for my samsung s6 just to get the 64 over the 32 but it was only $5 more than buying the 32GB version and a top of the line 32GB otg/usb stick. I still have the first USB/OTG 32 GB dongle that was purchased for me (and for some reason it came with a USB/OTG cable)

It holds my raves, emeis, rps's, all of australia on topo, about 4gb of mp3s a couple of dozen movies and still has enough room to shift junk from one place to another on.

hell, I remember when 640k ought to be enough for anybody...

Put it this way - if/when 64Gb Note 5's become available on Telstra plans I'll be straight down to the Telstra shop. It's that simple.

Can mobile phones imported rom overseas be used here?

Are they all the same or different frequencies or something....

I suppose there would be warranty issues in the event of problems though.
