Does anyone use skype?

Does anyone out there use skype? It is a FREE voip service. What this means is that you can make calls for FREE over the internet to anyone that also has skype

You can also use skypeout to dial people on their normal telephones for very reasonable rates

Yep, I use it a bit. Mostly I only use the chat option for people in Australia, I have found that voice calls often seem to break up. I do use the voice a bit to call my sister in the Solomon Islands I bit though.

It's sort of okish with dial up. Give it a try. If you get a good dial up you'll probably be ok Of course, refrain from doing anything on your PC that would be trying to use bandwidth while making a call. 2 years ago I got married and brought my wife back to Switzerland with me.

For the 3 years before that when I was in Switzerland and my (then girlfriend) was in Australia, I was using VoIP using nothing more than Yahoo! Messenger... though of course you could use MSN messenger as well.

Worked well enough, even though she only had dial-up.

I looked at Skype, it was ok'ish. Didn't need yet another program on my 'puter though so kept with the other messenger products..

Not that any of you mob would wanna talk with me anyway

Skype is awesome :!:

I recently went to the USA and had broadband in my hotel room. I think I paid 10 Euro (about $16 Aus dollars) for approx 200 minutes to a landline. The setup I had in my hotel room was, broadband, headset and skype. And I was calling a Australian landline (My girlfriend ) Call quality was pretty good, would say 90% of the time you couldn't tell the difference !!!

Have also tried calling one of my mates in QLD and he had Skype installed on his computer too, so it was computer to computer, call quality was good on that too....

Give it a go, doesn't cost that much !!!

Matt.

I use it all the time to talk to a mate in Cairns. We are both on broadband and it is as good as using the phone. Problem is we are both surfing the net at the same time so the conversations tend to be a bit vague. Cheers,
Pullsy
