Outlook connectivity issue on home wifi

Ok, I've been unable to get my works IT department to solve this so I'm turning to the brains trust.

Pre NBN, I could connect my work laptop to my wifi and use it no probs - internet and email (outlook). Work are happy for me to be connected to my own network and they can't seem to find a security setting that disallows this. Since I've had the NBN box, I've had dramas - the computer connects to the wifi no dramas, but to start with I couldn't use the internet or emails. I've solved the internet issue by unchecking the 'Use Proxy Server' tab in the browser settings - something I never had to do previously, but no biggy. I still can't use emails though - the 'Connectivity' shows 'disconnected' and every so often flicks to 'trying to connect' for a second, before going back to 'disconnected'.

Anyone have any ideas? I don't have admin rights on this unit, but if there's a setting needing changing that I don't have access to, I'll get IT to do it as they really want me off their back on this one...

I'm not really a computer person, so explanations need to be in 'computers for dummies' sort of language.

    Thanks in advance.

    whats the email address domain?

how you get internet access shouldn't really concern outlook, just that you have a viable internet connection.

if you want I could remote in an have a bopeep... you would need to instal team viewer to make that happen.

Thanks mate - I'd take you up on that but I doubt I have the access to install a program, unless it's already there and that's the program they use when IT are playing with it - I'll check. I keep and old work laptop for all of that which I still have admin rights on, but they won't allow any of the new laptops to do this for some reason which is a PITA as I need it to change comm port settings on some of the programs I use to program genset controllers, so I have to carry 2 laptops everywhere...

When you say you got the NBN box, you mean you just joined NBN and was in a different provider before? Sometimes mail is blocked to everywhere except your providers mail server. It can be changed though. Either through a portal if you have such a thing or ask NBN. I'd ask NBN if they are blocking anything mail related.

Save provider - Telstra, used to work fine on the wifi from the ADSL 2+ we had, but hasn't worked since the new NBN box replaced it.

This is only a suggestion, but as Judo says - does your employer provide a web based portal for your email? It's a work around but at my work, staff can go to a web page and login to their outlook. Ask your IT guys if you have OWA (Outlook Web Access)...

Yes they do but it's a huge PITA to use and doesn't intergrate with our CRM so basically useless most of the time. It also limits attachment sizes to 2MB as well - I think it was the same system used by Noah on the Arc....

99.9% of providers allow you to pickup from anywhere using an email client such as outlook

sending is usually blocked from external ip space but is sometimes allowed if you use authentication

    e.g.

if you use telstra address space you can "generally" use port 25 for outgoing mail with no auth and no ssl/tls etc

but if you use telstra's smtp.telstra.com mail server you "generally" need to use both auth and ssl/tls

sometimes, you can still use the second server if outside telstra address space if you use auth etc etc

    can be fun....

I lost you after '99.9% of providers...' unfortunately.

Sounds like I'm poking poo up hill trying to sort this one out. Oh, and team viewer isn't on my computer - they use something else, so I can't even let you take a peak unfortunately but really appreciate the offer.

Is there a possibility that your work IT has some ranges of IP address blocked because they are blacklisted as having produced spam, and your new connection is on a different IP to what you were?
