    Similar but different- I did some rosetta@home protein folding modeling on my PC back in my uni days (~2004). Idle PC time was spent working out energy levels of protein folding combinations to assist in identifying protein structures that could potentially be used as future therapeutic targets for curing disease. Computing for a good cause. Never got into bitcoin (I was way too early), and am probably too late to make it viable now...

    I was running a server that was retired from a doctors surgery- had dual AMD 2400+MP CPU's, a tyan server class motherboard, CPU cooling fans that could be heard 50m away, and a heap of SCSI drives that I'd scored off ebay. Ballin' on a budget. Fun times.

    most of the bitcoin miners use high graphics cards as the workers i believe.

    i used to have a go but what i did have got lost when a hdd went to hell in a bucket during a storm...

    mandlebrots are much preittier
