    Mobile phone screen protectors

I am peed off about so-called screen protectors. I recently acquired an expensive phone and decided to get one of these screen protectors as the cost of replacing the screen is prohibitive. The cost of one high impact protector was around $50. They are a high impact glass type. About 6 weeks later I notices a small crack at the top which gradually spread down the length of the protector. I purchased a new one and now 4 weeks later this one is cracking from the side. The phone is a Samsung S8 and a soft cover on it would make it too big for my pocket. the phone is either in my pocket or in the dash of the car. I do not drop or abuse the phone but these so called protectors are sending me broke.

I get the plastic ones from hong kong for about $2 delivered for a pack of 3, and they do fine, just replaced one after 4yrs of use, it started to get a bit scratched looking. Local ones are WAY too expensive.

I buy NuGlass tempered glass ones off ebay. 2 for $5 for the Galaxy S5.

They sometimes crack within 6 weeks, but at $2.50 each i dont mind. Screen is like new when I remove them so they seem to work well.

Only issue is for curved screens - the tempered glass doesn't curve so you don't get coverage on the edges. In that regard the plastic ones might be better but they dont provide the same protection.

I have used the waterproof/impact proof cases on my phones for the last few years and although a bit bulky they are fantastic.
I upgraded my phone last year But my old phone was still in great nick even though it was in my top pocket when I had a car prang and it broke 2 of my ribs in the impact.

Well if the tempered glass protectors are getting damaged - they are doing their job - if you didn't have them your screen would most likely have broken - so saving a bit.

I get my tempered glass protectors from the "chinese" mobile phone repairer/sellers kiosks located in many shopping centres - cost normally ranges from $10 to $20 - they last 6 -12 months but is cheaper than a new screen.

I've got an otter box defender case on my phone. I also stripped out the plastic screen protector that came with it. The phone goes into the case with a cheap ebay glass screen protector stuck on. I've dropped the phone quite a few times without any damage, and the clarity of the screen is as brand new.
