repeatedly. lots and lots over a few days now,,
no new hardware for 2-3 months.
Windows 10 repair and boot repair wont fix it
    have tested all the ram,
have run chkdsk /r several times, some I initiated, some windows,
have reinstalled W10 with same result,
all drivers are up to date, (driver Booster)
system has stopped during sfc /scannow
motherboard and ssd are less than 3 years old,,
sfc /scanow just completed with no violations
and the machine has run now for 40mins,,, sometimes it wont even boot before it BSOD's,,,

Have you tried re-building with a different boot disk and from non re writeable (ie potentially non infected) media ?, preferably with no other physical drives attached. I'm thinking boot sector or corrupt HDD issues here.

Hi Pedro, It's good to see things are progressing for you Being an old cynical bastard I'm always very wary of free programs that promise the world, especially if available on Cnet which, once upon a time, was a reliable source of malware/nuisanceware free software. I've never used either of the two programs you mention so can't comment on them specifically.
Back in the day when I was active in the PC diagnosis/repair area one of my first actions was to uninstall all free 'wonder programs', then all free game and other programs, temp shut down all additional crap in msconfig and run Malwarebytes. I found this solved 90% of non hardware issues. IMO free 'booster' programs are nothing but malware in disguise but as I said, I'm a cynic.

As for storage medium size for your 4G ISO I reckon an 8G USB is recommended to give a bit of headroom remembering that memory comes in 1, 2, 4, 8, 16 etc sizes and 8G is the next size up from 4G. This also makes allowance for the gray area of 1G = 1 000 000 vs. 1 024 000. So yes I reckon a 4.7G disc should do the job.

Once you're up and running again you may be able to 're juvenate' your SSD using the manufacturer utilities and then do a simple HDD copy back to the SSD. This is what I did with my old/new PC when I upgraded (ha ha..) from Win 7 to Win 10 with the added benefit of having a mirror image HDD as a backup. I'm over Win 10 now, IMO the pain is not worth the gain and am happy rattling away on an antique Win 7 Core2 duo as I transform the Win 10 PC into a Ubuntu LTS box. Happy days

I built a few SSD machines back in the early days of SSD's using OCZ drives, cheap at the time but expensive by todays standards. They were spectacularly awful drives and all had failed within 12 months. Fortunately they were configured to boot from the SSD with storage on a conventional HDD which made repair a fairly painless but expensive exercise. My old Win 10 machine uses a Samsung 850 Pro SSD 256G boot drive which has been faultless though I have no idea how it will behave/integrate with Ubuntu so may kick off with a conventional HDD, little steps

Good luck with it all Pedro.

yep 1803 downloaded, burnt, mounted, running for over an hour now,, ( without the other three HDDs connected...)

am wiping the samsung and will probably reload W10 on it and see if it makes a difference....

arent ssd'd supposed to bypass bad sectors/cells?
and if the drive is "corrupted"
how do I uncorrupt it? or is it a bin job...?

HDD manufacturers usually have a downloadable utilities package specifically designed to test/diagnose/repair their HDD's. I'd imagine Samsung would have one for their SSD's.

If you're wiping the SSD anyway it may be worth checking/replacing the master boot record (MBR) if this is suspect, it is located in the boot sector of the drive, or is with conventional drives anyway. A virus or corruption here will affect a rebuilt drive as it is not normally replaced when formatting a HDD. The fdisk /mbr DOS command used to be the old way of doing it but probably a bit different with Win 10. The trick is to boot from a known good source like a non writeable install disk and use something like bootrec/***.exe from the command prompt, but I've not done this in a Win10 environment. It may be with SSD's that the MBR could be held in ROM from manufacture which would mean it couldn't become corrupted, I don't know.

I wouldn't chuck the SSD Pedro it may just need a pat on the head but I would get rid of the 'magic bullet' software and malware/virus check your other HDD's before reconnecting them to your primary PC. I assume you have 'an old clunker' lying around that can be used for this purpose.
