    Memtest86

I have 4 identical ram sticks filling all 4 slots, I pressed f2 to get all 4 cpu cores running,
during Test Number 7(block move) the test stalls,, ie, the rotating bar next to STATE ,, stops.

I did this 3 times for the same result.

I am now running on ONE core and, while it SLOWS dramatically during test 7, it does finish and then normal speed is resumed for the remainder of the test.

I've never seen memtest stop or even slow down before..
The cpu is an i5 4570 so it should run this fine...

    Hi

Have not used that software in a long long time ....

    First thing to do is:
    1. Turn it off.
    2. Discharge your static and hold onto something earthy or wear a static strap.
    3. Remove and reseat all 4 RAM chips in the same sockets.
    4. Turn it back on again and redo the test.

If it was a RAM chip badly seated the problem will go away.
If not repeat the above but swap over some chips to another slot and see if the memory fault occurs at a different location. The mem tester should tell you at what location a failure occurred at. If the fault moves with the chip then bingo - problem found.

You could also possibly reseat the CPU itself.

    reseated ram,
same result at the same spot,,
    STATE= ///W

I wonder what the W means?
memtest has not show any errors, in 4 core or single mode.

I think its a cpu problem

this is probably the only time its run all 4 cores at once since it, er, appeared.

    Hi

Next thing to to use an alternative to memtest86. Google for "alternatives to memtest86" and you will find lots (try not to download a trojan). Do other mem testers fail also. It could be a bug in memtest86 for that chip.

Also even if memtest finds errors that may not result in problems in applications. Your not planning on that PC getting you to the moon or running a submarine.
