    WiFi range extenders

Our adsl service has expired ,I suspect Telstra playing funny buggers as the modem only shows 3 lights same as a spare good one .If i move the Mac from the office to the open door of the workshop about 30 feet and one wall I can pick up wireless broadband from the brothers house about 60 meters away. Question is can I get an aerial or range extender that will extend the signal to the office preferably one i can fit to the shed and not the house I can then tell Telstra what to do with there phone and ADSL

    Thanks Noel

I just got one the other day as my wifi start to drop off at the other end of house from modem.

It works brilliantly & will do exactly what you want Plug it into a powerpoint & follow the easy setup guide, It picks up the existing network & retransmits the same SSID with followed by " _EXT" and uses orig network pwd.

Yes you can, I have done this for my Mum she piggy backs of a neighbors WiFi. I used a NetGear one I had WiFi Range Extender | Discover | Home | NETGEAR
Just be aware you can suffer some speed loss with an extender, some reading here What's the difference: WiFi Booster, Repeater or Extender?

When we relocated the router to the outside of the house we can get a service into the office so figured with the extender we could put the router back inside .Spent all yesterday trying to get the thing to work Phone indicates excellent signal Mac says connected to the IP address no internet tho I have yet to see any signal strength lights to indicate no matter where I place the extender .Any thoughts ?

    Thanks Noel

Presume you grabbed the Wavlink one goingbush linked to?
Have you got it set correctly to be a repeater and not an access point or router? Also check that you have both channels (2.4 and 5) setup.

I bought a D-Link DAP_1320 a few years ago to get coverage at the other end of the house but, it was so slow, I gave up and ran an ethernet cable under the house and plugged it into a spare WiFi router set up with the same SSID as the main router. Movement from one part of the house to the other is now seamless and it allows us to have a hard wired connection to other items up at that end of the house.

I'm going to put the extender in the garage (remote from the house) to give me some internet out there.

This is what I've done also. Ethernet cable from the NBN modem in the house to the shed with its own wifi router.

I have a Cisco router - roughly midway inside my house.. I added a Dlink extender in my shed (approximately 20 mtrs from the main router) and it works fine.

I couldn't run an Ethernet cable from the house to the shed - as the conduit has 3 phase power in it, and isn't large enough.

I always prefer cable to Wi-Fi, I guess I'm showing my age....

    Cheers,
