Microsoft Word and Point Numbering 5.4.9 to 6.0 Not accepted Version 2013

    Hello All,

In Microsoft Word Version 2013 I have attempted to change the value on point numbers to progress from 5.4.6 to point 6.0.

I left-clicked on the point number area and all the point numbers are highlighted.
I have then right-clicked and chosen the option "set numbering value"
I have then set the "number value to 6.0.0 as per the first attachment
Once this is clicked on the following window pops up - shown as the second attachment.
It says "this value is less than the previous entry in the list, Use a value that is greater than the previous entry in the list"

Hmmm apparently I am mistaken when I think that 6.0 is bigger than 5.4.6

Can anyone let me know how I can get some level of numeracy returned to the Microsoft operations?

Your assistance will be most greatly appreciated ....

Oh BTW argggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh the sheer level of frustration! This value is less.....

    Kind regards
    Lionel

Not sure if you've seen this in your attempts to resolve the issue - there are a number of solutions that seem to have worked in this thread:

    Hello Sean,

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I did find the Super User post. Thanks for the link. However I am not sure whether it refers to the 2013 version. Mostly because the instruction says click on "More >>" at the bottom left of the screen. In my version of Word there is no "More >>> showing up anywhere.

    Kind regards
    Lionel

Hi Lionel, there is another answer further down the specifically references 2013. Did you have a chance to try that? It mentions disabling then re-enabling numbering on the line in question.
    Cheers,

...I assume you have "outdented" the line to be level with 5.0.0.

    Hello Sean,

Thanks for the information. If all else fails go to YouTube. I just found an Australian video made by an English person. So far it looks right on track. Fingers crossed.

The video link access 26th January 2019 from, How To Create Multilevel Numbering In Word (That Actually Works) - YouTube

    Kind regards

No doubt it is one of the most frustrating things when Word does not behave as expected when putting together a large document...add to that time pressure and you're ready to go to gaol for a solution.

Glad you got it worked out.

    Hello Sean,

    Thanks for the assistance, Sean.

I just watched the whole video clip and it is spot on. I could not recommend Jason Morrell's work more highly. Clear, straight-forward, step-by-step instructions.

Now back to the little happy document I am working on. A draft chapter outline of my dissertation to send to my new supervisors.

I am taking a break because my old printer just decided to give up the ghost - off to some retailers - weee! Hopefully they have a selection of laser printers...

    Kind regards
    Lionel
