I tend to keep stuff till the very very last microsecond ... before tipping it.

Never know what circumstance could crop up in the future.

Just a couple of days ago, a friend off a photography site asks me about the relative merits of RAID for backup, I tell him my thoughts, turns out he's looking into a new setup for backing up stuff.
My first NAS was an old 2 bay Dlink thing(soem 327 thing). That was nigh on 10 years ago. Replaced with a 4 bay QNAP, about 2015-ish.

Should have chucked the Dlink one a while back now, but didn't. Offered to mate, but then we worked out he doesn't need it .. but maybe one day.
But I'll still keep it, just packed away in it's box till some other situation crops up where it could be useful for someone.

Otherwise throw it up on ebay or something.
    Arthur.

My first thought njz ,, but it needs 240V, and while, in the new van, that may not be the drama it is in the Golf, I'm not sure they are ( the files ) really still needed??
Its 10TB and 20 years of gathered, er , stuff. I suppose I could buy one 10TB drive, copy it over and stick it in a van cupboard.....

Researchers from Qihoo 360's Network Security Research Lab (360 Netlab), have released a report detailing how unpatched QNAP network-attached storage (NAS) devices, are being targeted in ongoing attacks where threat actors are attempting to take the devices over and install cryptominer malware.

All NAS devices with QNAP firmware released before August 2020 are currently vulnerable to these attacks. A potential 4,297,426 vulnerable QNAP NAS devices were discovered by the researchers online. Even though QNAP hasn't published an advisory to warn customers of the active attacks, the company urged customers To update their devices to their latest versions.
