Got a copy of latest mint 20.1 and put that on laptop.

Found out I hadnt put in some items that I must have missed on the 19.3 version.

Got it all up and running now

    A question

What media player is the better for Mint( I have used VLC (on windoze) but getting a few conflicting
stories about it of late), so thought I'd ask.

    TIA

    DG

I have VLC running on both Linux Mint and Big Sur on my iMac and it’s great on both. I doubt that there’s anything better.

Big Sur is the one after High Sierra?

Just thinking about updating the OS on my 2017 Macbook.

    cheers, DL

No, Catalina is after Mojave which came after HS. Big Sur comes after Catalina. It has many new features. The next one coming soon is Monterey, but I wouldn't wait for that one. I'm running Big Sur on my 2012 iMac, which is unsupported by  and it struggles a bit but I reckon it's a good OS. If you have any software that you can't live without then check it will still run on macOS 11 first.

I only run Office for Mac 2016 or thereabouts.

Apple site says I can install Big Sur. Running on 10.13.6 atm.

    cheers, DL

I'd go for it. It's faster, it frees up space and it manages disk and RAM usage far better than HS, plus it has some pretty cool little tricks that make it a bit more iOS like. Pretty sure Office will be just fine. Microsoft and  are much better friends than most people believe.

    I'm on 11.3.

I use mplayer, but it's a bit of "what you are more familiar with". I use vlc on OSX and iOS, but I suppose I've been using mplayer on linux for "a few years" now, so it's just natural.
