Haven't tried the cache specifically - is that part of 'disk cleanup" if so yes but if no will try when I get home tonite - I am running the latest versions of IE and FF. I only have the problem with the one website - all the others I use are OK

in IE go to tools menu > internet options >general tab :
Click on : delete cookies, delete files, clear history.
OK them all, close IE then try the page again

I'm going to assume you have broadband at home & you're running through some sort of a router (phone line goes into one hole, network cable comes out of anothet & into your PC.

Some routers are too clever for themselves. They do what's called "dns caching", which means they store the address of websites you go to. What I think is happening is that your router is serving up the wrong address, or somehow has screwed itself into a knot, as far as that one site is concerned.

Quick fix is to turn your router off, wait a few seconds, then turn it on again.

You should also get into your router's admin screen & turn dns caching off, coz it doesn't help much anyway.

This screwed up dns thing is a problem with some d-link routers. Haven't seen it on others but you never know! It can be fixed with a firmware upgrade but that's always too much hassle & you can permanently break your router of something goes wrong.

I would also suggest he runs the ipconfig /flushdns from a command prompt

Start>run> type cmd then type the above command in the dos window "black screen" that appears.

Hunchy - I disconnected the power as suggested but it had no impact - I have a ADSL Broadband Modem (DSL - 302G).

I went into the modem setup but couldn't find anything titled DNS Caching. The one reference I could find to DNS was already disabled.

Aussie - Tried the command prompt but still no change.

Guys - thanks for your suggestions, I really do appreciate it.

That just may be your problem. I ran into a similar hiccup 2 weeks ago. If the web site you want is on a different DNS, things can stop.

Check with your ISP for their "preferred DNS" IP address. Telstra's Big Pond is very good at this, they don't want you to know more than them. If you are with TBP, they don't like letting you go, they are locked to MS, binding contracts etc.

DNS is Domain Name Server. There are literaly thousands of Domains in the ether.

DNS IP address is essential.

You can also try pinging the DNS name, this will give u an IP. Post the IP here and then we can ping the site and see if your DNS is screwed.
