Don't know about them Ron, but keep an eye out in OfficeWorks I bought a portable 320gig USB drive for $190 just recently.

I was about to buy an LG 1GB USB flash drive today (reduced from $150 to $78) when I saw that the shop had Seagate ST980801U2-RK 80Gb portable USB hard drives for only $100 more ($178).

Has any used one of these? Are they any good?

Yes, I run one all the time, but a 200 gb, which I think, from memory only cost $200 +/- I use it to back up the home system, (4 pc's and my laptop) and an extra storage for pictures (I have tooooooo many of them)
Certainly a very good investment
The only down side is yet another adaptor and another plug to find a power socket for.
I currently have 6 x 6 outlet boxes, and I am still running out
The only issue I can see would be if they need a driver installed. Generally memory sticks are OK but some of the HDD USB units need a driver installed (under XP).
This could make it a nuisance to move between computers.

I was looking as a backup/complement to my laptop - this HDD doesn't need or come with a power adaptor (only required if being used with a USB 1.0 port). It is also quite small so I can carry it about.
I can also use it to transfer files between the desktop and the laptop. Both machines are connected to my router but I can't get networking working - I've been trying to get it to work for months. Win XP is supposed to make it easy!

I have a HP 4M network printer plugged into the router. I'm using HP Web JetAdmin but can't get the PCs to see it. I can see the printer from the desktop when accessing it using JetAdmin but I can't add it as a printer - if you understand what I mean.
I used to have it working on my previous set-up but since then I've replaced the desktop and now I can no longer get it to work.

P38ARover the drive you were looking at was a 2.5 inch notebook drive in a USB2 Drive case.
The others noted here are larger desktop drives a bit like comparing apples and oranges.
How transportable do you need it to be if you drop a USB drive case with drive in it you may kill the drive but your USB memory stick is much more resistant to this.
The cost you quote for the 1 Gb stick is too high from memory the last ones I bought were c$75 and they were 2 Gb
Post Office (Australia Post) is selling 1G sticks for $49
