Disposing of old computer gear

The reason I've always run Macs has been due to software - in 1994 Photoshop, Illustrator, Avid, Media 100, After Effects, broadcast codecs and others were Mac only.... there is one Mac here (8100/80av) that cost nearly $60,000 with all the gear, I'm not selling it - I have an attachment to it - occasionally it is brought back on line to finish off a broadcast jobbie.....
amazing actually, built 1994 and still in perfect nick......... and more capable than some of the new stuff, but for that price it would want to be...
obsolete due to its lack of pace, so what, but not its output quality.

I've got a 7300, 8600, and one of the first G3s sitting here in a cupboard too. The 7300 got me through uni and I can't bring myself to part with it either! I'm going to set one up to pipe streaming net radio through my nice speakers, but have to wait for cooler weather to get up into the roof to run the cables.

They'll all still do what I need to for work, albeit slowly.

That is why every Advertiseing house, TV Studio, Movie house in the modern world always went Mac. Always was far superior to MS in any graphic production work. Watch the credits of your favourite gameshow, you will see graphics made on Apple computers roll past every time.

Quiggers, if you can do a COD plus a bit for your trouble, I would love to hook a G3, even a tiny little one, into my home network. Just to get a handle on the way to do it for my IT mate. Got the Linux server side going for him, love to try my hand at Mc,Networking. Bit like NM and her new puter?

Thank you all for your help and comments.

Shipping all this gear around the countryside would be a major pain in the butt as the shipping boxes have long gone, then there is the cost and these machines are older, which brings into question, their ongoing reliability.

I'm not sure learning about old computer operating systems would be of any great value, as these machines are OS8 and OS9. Apple dumped this OS more than five years ago and OSX is not compatible with the previous.

Learning the Apple OS should be the current IMHO, learning the old and then eventually learning the new is a waste of time, I reckon. And to further muddy the water, the new OS wont run on older machines.

The two OSs are very different.

Sadly, all this once fine gear is really only for scrap. Maybe I should collect old computers etc and start a business recycling for the metals:D

MacMan; Yup know what you mean, the 8100/80av will stay for sentimental reasons.

Tis amazing what we acquire - many I acquired used, and were only extras to fill a short term need.

6 x LCs (the pizza box machine)
2 x G3 beige
2 x 5200
1 x 5500
1 x 7300
1 x 8100
1 x G3 blue
1 x G4 350

3 x old windows type PC things

12 monitors of various sizes
literally miles and miles of cable

Like I said, amazing what ends up in the shed......

I was once told the ram chips were always valuable but who wants an 8 or 16 mb these days, ram is now measured in Gbs!

Please don't treat this as advertsing, Inc, just discussing the waste of the modern world, (then there's a handful of old mobile phones and the list of old new stuff seems to never end.....consumerism)
