Once a month I generally take a van load of computers, components, monitors to the tip and they always get me to put it in their stash pile, I really don't know what happens after that.

If I have a pile of known to be working monitors and computers I drop them off at our local aged care place, who then sell the stuff off in their second-hand shop which goes to paying for facilities. You will find most places like Salvo's, Lifeline are happy to take working stuff.

    Best regards

Thanks Darren, sadly our local Vinnies and Salvos etc have stopped any further donations and this has been due to dumping - two of these NGOs contacted me on the same day to put notices in my local paper saying 'the end has come' enough of 'donations'.....

    Your sentiments are right, however....

But there's always some mongrels around to screw things up........

I tried to give away a perfect electric daisywheel typewriter (with parallel port) to St Vinnies.

They no longer accept any electrical goods.

The buzz down in Leichhardt where I work in Sydney is that there is a real push to keep them out of landfill and you will not be able to put them out for a regular garbage pick up.

There are a couple of mobs gearing up in Sydney to pick them up and recycle the bits they can but I don't have any details as yet.

Only a matter of time before this gets up all over Aus.

computer recycling is a big buisness in europe - i remember seeing a show about 10 years ago on tv were they were making all sorts of things out of the plastic parts shredded and re made... its a good idea - and with the turn around in computers these days a worthwhile venture.

i used to give my old pc stiff to a local workshop that referbished them and gave them to not for profit organisations - they dont do it anymore - wasnt a viable buisness.
