    Pedro,

What did you make the original "images" with?

That might be the key to how to put them where you current "C" is...

Also.. it might sound obvious.. but are the images of the C from the PC your putting them on?

    DriveImageXML

You do like to make it difficult don't you

Never used either of those products.....

BUT most drive imaging products should allow you to create a bootable disk... either floppy or CD depending on the program and once booted from that allow you to navigate to your image... and then hopefully specify where is should be restored too..

That's how the theory goes... in practise - if the backup you made the image from was an image file to start with.....I fear things will get pretty ugly...

Did Cobian backup simply copy all the files to a different location - or did it create a single file type image? ( If it copied - did it get all the hidden stuff too?)

I don't want to remotely advise you to dump what could be just a big single file... onto a partition that currently has a working OS on it.... cause that ain't going to work.

    Well you could do this-
    http://www.runtime.org/peb.htm
That's instructions, etc. to build a bootable XP cd with the driveimage stuff on it.

Of course they do say use at own risk.

Not sure how many HDDs you have, but the safest thing to do is pull out HDD that has the data on (drive C) and substitute with something more blank, X or Y, I guess.

I had a look at the Cobian site, isn't he the guy in prison for killing his wife?

No, can't be the same guy.

Sorry, I'm not helping at all.

    Cheers

    Wait, there's more.

    http://sherwood.lh.umu.se/CobianBack...Terms=bootable

It can copy the files that can be copied. System files that are in use exclusively by the system cannot be copied. For this, you should use an Image program.
If you made a complete backup of your system with Cobian, and then made an image of it with Driveimage, then you can't restore it from scratch.

If you made an image of your original C drive with Driveimage then you should be able to do a complete system restore. That'd be if you made an image with Driveimage and backed it up with Cobian.

How about some system restore points?

    Cheers
