Angry My mouse has furry balls :(

Just in the interest of balance, so that you know out there that not everything is perfect in apple land, I need to tell you my tale of woe.

I have a apple mighty mouse. It's an optical mouse with a little scroll wheel on the top that lets you slide up and down and back and forth. It's great, but when it eventually clogs up you have to destructively disassemble it to clean it's balls!

    Grrrr

    Mighty operation.

    Ever tried compressed air?

Try it genlty at first, 20PSI and work up. The last thing you want to do is hit it with a blast of 150PSI and spen the rest of the day looking for bits in the next-doors yard

That's a great idea and I hadn't thought about it.

So, I just **cough cough** blew his balls but it hasn't made a difference... although I swear he had a smile on his face.

It's under the knife he goes!

I just bought a might mouse last week, it is great.
How long did you have it before it clogged up with dust?
It doesn't seem to have big gaps for any dust to get in

Yep, it looks well sealed...and it is.

However, they start playing up after a couple of months.

Initially it responded well to the Apple cleaning method. I also found a little isopropyl on the finger then work the ball worked as well for a while. Recently though, that has been giving only minor relief

So, I've just pulled it apart and put her back together. It's fiddly, but not hard. About 45 minutes click to click. It will probably only take 15/30 next time.

The true test will be whether the mouse respects me in the morning

For some really stupid reason, I just started missing my old IBM Aptiva P3, with "toggle mouse".

The machine was a horrid thing, but that up\down, left\right toggle, rather than a scroll wheel, was a pure gem. And, it just plain will not work at all, except under the IBM OEM version of 98SE.

IBM may now bang it's collective head against a hard thing until I forgive them.
And I am a particularly unforgiving Chief Engineer Officer.

    Shorty.
