Franz what brand and model is it
Duane
G'day Group,
I was recently given an older laptop by a friend and I want to use this to run Ozi in the Disco. The problem I have is twofold.
1) The hard disc is on the small side but this I can fix by putting in a larger hard disc and I have a 40GB drive for this purpose.
2) My major obstacle is that the BIOS is password protected and I don't have the password (and neither does my mate)
Is there any way I can install the hard disc by bypassing the BIOS? Or is this impossible and I should just give it up as a lost cause.
Can anybody help?
TIA.

Hi Franz
You might want to try obtaining a copy of the manual for the laptop and see if there is any mention of resetting the Bios. With a desktop this is usually done with a jumper on the motherboard. Never been inside a laptop so don't know if it's the same.
Regards
All of the above. You can try disconnecting all power - ac, battery, cmos battery - and see if that fixes it.
Is it just a bios password, can you boot the computer? You might be lucky and have it set for auto detect on hdd size rather than a fixed-size disk.
Cheers
Simon
when you start the computer it should tell you the motherboard maker and which model it is.
You can also download a BIOS update that will update your BIOS and wipe the password.
Usually you can just copy yht files to a floppy disc and reboot the computer, that's it.
The other two replies are also very valid.
This would be my suggestion too. If it is an old laptop it will benefit from a bios update anyway!
Just make sure that it is running on mains power when the update is in progress. Having the battery go flat during the update will cause more headaches than what you started with!

most laptops will auto detect the HDD change by default.
there is a free utility called "killcmos" that may help you if you need to clear bios.
some units also have a jumper to clear cmos.
see if you can find the manual for it on the net..
