Thread: Who do you IT people use for an ISP ?

I use AAPT, they give an good deal if you get your phone with them too. Went with them for price, never had to call the help desk, never had a issue with it. About 2 years now.

Go for any ISP really except Telstra, help desk crap & cost is $$$$$$$$

Westnet are good; I've also had good experiences with Amcom, Internode and Netspace.

I found the quality of my TPG connection suffered at peak time although the pricing was good (I reckon they oversell their bandwidth too much).

Telstra/Bigpond are bandits esp charging for uploads but every now and again have a good deal (but read the small print). Despite vowing never to deal with Telstra I actually have a good bundled deal at the moment with line rental.

Optus are following in their footsteps these days, their plans keep getting worse and they started counting uploads as well...

personally i cant fault telstra. they have some nice bundled packages and can be negotiated with.

heaps of free content and mirrors but they do count uploads for what thats worth.

I'm with TPG ADSL + 2 150 GB Plan , $69.99

Peak and Off-Peak periods apply , Uploads don't get factored in.

I went with TPG Mainly due to cost issue , once it's all set up works brilliant , I initially has an issue with the MTU ( Maximum Transmission Unit size ) with my Netcomm Router , reduced the MTU size and don't have any browsing issues.

Telstra count uploads Now that's interesting I know loads of people with Telstra. I think counting uploads is a bit archaic now.

Telstra in general offer a good reliable service But..... in general they are way more expensive than other ISP's, (and phone carriers come to that) and there help desk for ISP, (as well as land line, mobile and PDA/Data/VPN) are total crap. IMO
Just yesterday I had to call the same help desk three times for the same reason within about 30 minutes each time they said they had fixed it
What annoys me is I TOLD THEM what was wrong and how to fix it.
I call Telstra regularly through my job and every time I dial in the number it gives me the $h!ts

Actually.. it's not ancient , let's says you're on an internet plan of 12GB a Month with a certain ISP and you're speed is ADSL+2 speeds , for you to dowload a 6GB file via Torrent sites you will need to upload around app
40-50% to other Torrent users , if you're upload is counted with that ISP ( ie Telstra ) then you've already reached your 12GB limit and you will get shapped , so people searching around for internet service providers look at things like " Is upload Counted "?

hmmm maybe I wasn't clear.
What I was trying to say was that at one time nearly all ISP's counted upload towards your data limit. ISP's are moving away from that and I wouldn't even consider an ISP that counts upload. Unless of course they offered nearly twice the total limit. If that makes sense?
Either way ISP's counting upload towards your data limit is a bad thing and Telstra should get their act together, (as should other ISP's that count upload).
