    Photoshop Programs

    HI all'
I was playing with a photoshop program the other day and thought I would buy the software and load up.
There appears to be a few on the market which one do you use and /or recommend.
    thanks Tr

If you are just starting down the path of digital editing I would recommend Adobe Photoshop Elements (currently Version 6). There are a lot of programs out there and many of them do as good or even better job. That said, Photoshop and its cut down baby brother Photoshop Elements are with out a doubt the most well documented of this type of software. There is an incredible amount of online tutorials and teach yourself stuff available, plus books, magazines etc.

Try and get the Academic Pricing version and save some $'s.

I use a program called the "GIMP"

    ---- Begin Stolen Content ----
GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed piece of software for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. It works on many operating systems, in many languages. (more...)
    ---- End Stolen Content ----

Its free and can be downloaded from the following site:
GIMP - The GNU Image Manipulation Program

You will also need to visit the user manual:
    GNU Image Manipulation Program
(Its a bit of a learning curve if your usedto photoshop)

Elements will do all that and more.
e.g. (and walker's going to hate me - again!)

    or my D2a SWB

GIMP as mentioned is free and there is certainly nothing wrong with it.

But I will stress the point that if you haven't used this type of software, the user group support for Photoshop (including Elements) is the best thing going for it.

Expect to pay about $140 for PS Elements V6 or $90-$100 for the academic pricing version. Try Harvey Norman as I find they'll usually lower the price if challenged.

Download the freebie, see how far it takes you. When you start to notice what it won't do it's time to buy Photoshop.

    Cheers

    photoshop

    Tracker

As a professional photographer, photoshop is now my daily tool of trade , just a modern darkroom.
Adobe Photoshop CS3 is the best but far too expensive for the average user.
Adobe Photoshop elements 6 is excellent value and does everything you will want to do.
The good thing about Adobe products is the help component is very well laid out.

    Cheers.
