Thread: Help me print from my lap top please

A little off topic, but anyway ....

I have just installed a replacement D-Link wireless and ethernet ADSL2 router/modem on our system. I currently have no use for the wireless component as I prefer the hardwired ethernet. The wireless component has security coding which I have activated but I have also left the aerial unattached.

Am I correct in my assumption that the wireless bit won't work, regardless of the security setting, due to the fact the aerial is missing ??
Maybe I'm a being a tad overly paranoid about security ...

PS Same prob with my printer at the mo and waiting for a tech to call today to set up the IP address stuff ... beyond me I'm afraid.

Also re one of the comments above about multi-function printers not sharing the scanner function over the network, not true with a Lanier unit. The scanner is setup to be able to email scanned items to any PC on the network.

I've been using a D-Link DI524 (it's an 802.11g 2.4Ghz wireless) for about a year now without any problems, setup was simple - it has a routine specifically for Bigpond cable.

Just look for one that mentions bigpond cable on the box. From memory it was around $90

Easier to use than FloppyFw or Dachstein running on a Linux box, that I had used in the past (not to mention a lot smaller footprint).

Good luck with the printer I've got a Canon MFC and its a royal pain in the a***. (time to upgrade)

Just got off the phone to the techie. He managed to talk me through it as he was booked out all day.

What a job ... .

For a total luddite like me, I would have been completely out of my depth.

talk you through.... disabling the wireless??

but for an answer - no. Its like your TV being able to get some reciption with out having the rabbit ears plugged in its not a clear picture - but you can make it out
