    MP3 for Defender Radio

    Hi Guys

    I used windows media player to rip some of my CD's into MP3 abd then coppied them all onto a CD-R compact disc.
    Put the disc into the new Defender radio/cd and it spat it out with error.
    I scanned the page of my manual explaining the format but not being computer literate I need some advice on how to get my cd to be recognised.
    Apretiate some advice

    Are you sure your unit can play MP3s ??

    "If your audio unit is not able to play mp3 discs, then the disc will not be recognised"

    I can't play mp3s and error is what I get.

    The UK models get the MP3 compatible player. Australia doesn't

    I had the same problem. 200-300 songs carefully compiled onto a CD and all for nothing!

    Hi James,

    You should've stuck to the Series 3 - I don't have any music problems in my 11a diesel!

    Anyway, I have this problem too in my modern Japanese hatch: it won't recognise MP3 format either.

    You've two options:
    1) Replace the head unit in the car with an aftermarket one that does. I think Solmanic recently documented this with his shiny new Defender. They're quite cheap and the job isn't difficult.
    2) Keep the same stereo and buy yourself an iPod (or any other brand - I use iRiver and it's very sturdy and reliable).
    You'll also need an FM transmitter that plugs into the cigarette lighter and the iPod at the same time (
    This option is how I move lots of music around in the car: it's cheap, it's secure (you can put the ipod in your pocket when you leave the car) and it's much better than juggling with CDs.

    Unhappy No mp3

    Yep, seems you are right. Definately dosn't accept any MP3 no matter how I write them to CD.
    Oh, well - guess technology was on hold in that department.
    Even my Toyota reads MP3 and it's 2 years old already.
    Speaking of my Toyota - still at the panel beaters getting the suspension straightened out. Hope to get it done by end of the week. 16 liters/100 on the Ser III is murder even though company pays the fuel.
