the free one allows remote control and chat
Hi,
I need to remotely support my parents with their PC. Two problems in doing this are (A) they run Vista Home so Remote Desktop is out and (B') they don't have a fixed IP.
What I was planning was to use VNC but I need a fool-proof way for them to get and to give me their IP over the phone. ie a desktop link that they click and waa-laa, here it is!....and yes, it has to be this simple
Any ideas welcome.
Cheers
Mark

Thanks Dave, I'll give it a go.
You can use Windows Live Messenger, I've used this to support my folks for three years. Works between XP and Vista - I've used it in both directions.
I've put them on an iMac and they are have a lot less problems - didn't want to support them on Vista![]()

They need to be able to:
Start messenger (sign in can be set as automatic)
From menu select Actions>Request remote assistance
Click you messenger name
You then accept remote assistance request and get shown their desktop
They have to click yes/no prompt to say its OK
You can then request to "Take control"
They have to click yes/no prompt to say its OK
That's it. I had to set up a hotmail account for them, talk them through the first sign in and that was it.
