E-bay Computer items, Scam in China

    Hi all,

I won't go too far into it as there are more "knockers" that positive posts in this forum.

I bought a computer battery from China. It did not work and was sent back. The seller kept me at bay until the 45 days expired. Then you have no come back.

If you are looking at buying in Asia, drop me a line and I'll tell you who to NOT buy from.

I should have read his "profile" first. Those from far and wide countries also have been stung!

    Cheers

Hi Ron. I too have looked at a new Ebay battery for my Dell 6400. To buy one from Battery World will cost about $250 (forget exact figure). However on Ebay one can be had for around $80 for the same 9 cell as above (and that I had originally).
The Ebay ones are marked genuine Dell.

Given my usual thoughts of Chinese crap I looked online and found people discussing these batteries and saying that they are fake (surprise surprise) and have low quality cells etc.

So given that I did nothing as I'm not paying $250 for a new battery for an 18 months old computer (failed at 12 months) and I'm not going to chance it on some Chinese crap either.

Also repacking my original battery probably won't work out as even when the cells are fully charged the computer senses that the battery has reached its maximum number of cycles and won't use it.
I googled it to death and found no work arounds for the circuit that is in the battery case that controls this.

I need a new battery for my laptop, too. I'd like info on from who not to buy.

I don't know where the best place is to get a battery Ron.
I just had another look on Ebay and noticed that some sellers do actually state that the batteries are not genuine. Doesn't mean they ar any good though.

When I looked into repacking the battery I found that the cells (lithium-ion) are not the easiest to get hold of. From memory they aren't particularly cheap either. Can't remember any figures though.

I'm sure these cells are more powerful than in my battery.
    3.7 Volt 2200 mAh Li-Ion 18650 Battery w/ Tabs
However at US$10.89 each that is US$98 just for the cells.

These are lower power than the above by nearly half but would do my battery for US$46.76 with one spare cell.

Just makes you wonder what crap cells must be in the Ebay ones when they can be at your door for A$80 or less.

This is a more complete list of the cells that will fit my battery

Mine are red with the number JLTM2A6. There is another number on each battery but each one is different.

    Hi guys,

Justin, I wish I knew that before

The battery was for my Daughters birthday and I ran out of time. I had no option but to pay $190 from battery world.

    Ron,

    These were offering good buys:
Laptop Batteries, Notebook Batteries, Laptop Computer Battery, Notebook Battery for IBM, Compaq, HP, Toshiba, DELL Laptop

Press Digital Australia – Mobile Computing, Tablet PC Case, Barcoding, PDA, Pocket PC, Laptops - Press Digital Australia

The one to avoid at all costs is:
eBay Store - Kylin's World: Laptop PC Adapter, Laptop PC Battery, Computer Accessories

    Cheers,
    Ron
