    In the router:

Enable the SSID Broadcast which will allow your laptop to "see" the router when you search for wireless nodes.
Set the security type. WPA or WEP. WPA is more secure.
    Set the pre-shared key.

    In the laptop:
Go to Networks and search for a wireless network.
Once your laptop has found your network (look for the SSID Name), make sure you have the same security type (ie WPA).
Enter the key and that should work.

Now go back to the router and turn-off the SSID broadcast.

    Cheers
