i'd recheck that, not a very realistic fgure on any broadband here in aus.

Just did it again and got 8000KBPS!!!

Better than I often get on Optusnet cable. 1 bps isn't uncommon.

Yep, one bit per second!

Maybe try turning on the router firewall and turning off the Trend firewall. Two reasons: First router firewall connects from initial contact with the internet and will protect all computers attached, as well as the router, second that the Trend firewall might slow your computer down a bit.

So then tried to download a Utube link from this forum. Stopped midway.
connected the modem direct to the computer and it downloaded. HMMMM.

So went to the Belkin site and had a look. Didn't really give any clues on the site but gave instructions on how to access the router settings by typing 192.168.2.1 with no www or http.

Went in and saw that firewall was enabled. Disabled firewall.
Downloaded complete U tube video for the first time.

Apparently the combination of Trend Micro Internet Security Pro firewall and the router firewall was causing the problem. Vista Firewall has been disabled all along and the Trend protection is on default.
Hope this helps some other old duffer like me.

Have you checked if there's any firmware updates for your router? I have an I.T. background and used to have a tendency to apply updates, especially if there's a list of fixes, however it can sometimes bite you in the bum - after applying later firmware versions to mine, apps like MSN and P2P download programs regularly drop out.

So if you're tempted to update your firmware be sure to make a backup of the existing version.

Try lowering the MTU down to 1400 on the computers/router see if that makes a difference
