    System Restore.

    As I had reloaded XP due to this strife, Sys Res was no longer available back far enough to be of any use.

    It's been a good learning curve though.

    Update to this if anyone may be interested for future ref.

    Seems ok now after following this.


    Go to this key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Desktop\SafeMode\Components
    Change the value of DeskHtmlVersion to zero instead of decimal 272.

    Fingers crossed.

    Update to the update to the update et al.

    It appears that the Active Desktop Recovery/Line 65/Script thingo may have been an Internet Explorer 7 conflict, following advice.

    Upgrading to IE8 seems to have fixed it finally.
