Another PC upgrade - Recommended specs

    Hiya,

Time has come to upgrade my boy's PC (currently a P4-3GH) as the graphics card is u/s and the Asus P4P800 MB is 5 yo.

I'm going to keep the HDD (250GB ), PS, case, etc but need an ATX MB, CPU + Fan, RAM and vid card. I can do the research re these but I need some guidance on mid level specs re the CPU and RAM, and therefore the MB, to future proof the thing for a couple years.

Function is home work / medium level gaming machine.

    CPU speed?
    RAM type and speed?

Given these I can shop around for the best value MB, then vid card.

    Cheers.

    buy new! :)

I used to always be building computers and rebuilding them but I've got lazy now and just buy new... for something like you mention a DELL would be pretty cheap.. have warranty etc...

But yeah if you're keen to upgrade motherboard etc sorry I just haven't kept up with them...

    core2 duo,, 2.5ghz
mobo, 775 msi, with pci-e,, 100$ will get you a good one for what you want,,
ram, 800mhz ddr2, 2g-4 if your running vista, be about 150 for the 4gigs, the more you buy the cheaper it is,

gpu- just me but i like nvidia so id get a 9600gt,--

but for what you want, you could get a nice sys for about 600 an that will last you a colpe of yrs of happy gaming,

for the best prices, go to umart.com, an you cant go wrong, i havent got one complant with them, an you will get most of your parts the next day, an the cheapset buy a long way

i think it would be well worth your money to upgrade the gpu to a MSI 9600gt, ther about $150 an will last you alot more yrs then a 9400,, games nowa days will be pushing it on a 9400, even just your standed games,

(or just folow me an get 2 9800GTX OC) max in crysis
