Thread: PDF print drivers??

    PDF print drivers??

I use CAD all day ... and can have paper size of AO being used

For black & white copies ...
I use PaperPort as a print driver for a PDF and it comes out real sweet .. But it is stuck in USA paper size .. so it can make it tough when selecting a suitable sheet size ... as AO A1 A2 is not exactly available in the paperPort program (I have to always manipulate it to suit)

For colour ... it has it's limitations in the DPI region and can max out easily in the 600 dpi area (program crash)

Have tried pdf995 ... seems good for colour ... but looses translation in line weights in black / white versions (no good to me)

also tried "CIB pdf brewer" ... seems good for colour ... but looses translation in line weights in black / white versions (no good to me)

In B/W ... I recon the Paperport comes up the best .... In colour, it is also tops .. but only to a certain dpi or a paper size

Anyone got tips on a hot PDF print driver .. for large paper size CAD drawings

and has anyone used PaperPort Professional 11 ???

    Mike

I like PaperPort but I didn't know it would do PDF - I bought PDF995 (and the rest of the suite) for that.

I'm afraid my PaperPort is V9.

Ron ... It's a top little program ... Go to your printers & settings and you will find that it is actually a print driver ... select it as your printer .. and you can Print any document / picture into a PDF , TIFF , JPG .. and the program will convert 1 to the other

It doesn't convert documents to PDF ... It just prints them up as PDF

Sorry for the double Q's .... After downloading half a dozen PDF trials, and finding them not suitable .... Just need bit of glossary on how the documents look ... Does the page look active // so to speak .. or do they hold their line weights (thickness) as the CAD picture was intended??

I found the other versions I tried couldn't shade "black to grey" ... only held black'ish through out ... also they actually retained some of the colours of the drawing, when I actually set it to "Black & white" print

Had no troubles with CutePDF on XP, no end of troubles with it on Vista.

    Go figure.

As with all things "your mileage might vary". I used to use pdf995 but gave it away for cutePDF. It meets my needs. Its free for commercial and private use with no water marks or pop up ads.

I run Acrobat 7 at work and 5 at home. The distiller print driver comes as part of the installation package and is very effective.

I dabbled with various free / cheap alternatives a while ago and failed to find one as effective and trouble free as Distiller.

Depends what $$ you are prepared to throw at the solution. I assume you need this for commercial / professional usage and can't go down the path of 'acquired' software...

I'll try PaperPort for printing to a PDF file from RAVE. You can't print from RAVE to a PDF file with Acrobat (I'm using V9 Professional), e.g., when you want to send a page or two to someone via email.
