    XP won't detect monitor

I've just bought a cheapy LCD monitor for the kids' computer (Compaq Presario running XP - all up to date).

I can't get XP to detect the monitor (Acer V203H), and the default plug and play driver looks a little rough around the edges of the fonts. Resolution is set to 1024x768.

The video is on-board ATI Radeon Express 200 series.

The software that comes with the monitor loads up a whole heap of useless ****, but doesn't have a model-specific windows driver.

Does anyone have experience with such things and if so can you offer any suggestions please?

    Regards
    Scott

I'd check around the forums (Google the model number). Eg.,

    ACER V203H Driver issue - Monitors/Video

There seem to have been a few issues with this monitor in trying to get it running in anything other than 1280 x 1024 resolution. (1400 x 900, which it's supposed to support, doesn't work apparently).

You could try other Windows drivers to see if any will work in 1280 x 1024, which would be better than what you've got.

    Cheers,

    Lionel

Have you enabled 'ClearType' fonts? Also LCD monitors tend to look a bit crappy when not run at native resolution which for this monitor is 1600x900
