The Courier delivered BoB this morning!.... It's been 1 week without a land line phone and 2 weeks without broadband, I was getting peeved withoutv access to the outside world. But now sine i got it up and running, It's YABBA DABBA DOO WILMA!!!!!!!!!!
    And it's fast!
Ps always read the instructions, thinking that since it's wirelass, why do they include a ADSL filter and line to plug into the wall socket. , But it didn't work without it. So maybe it uses the old phone line like a big arial or something"?

It's adsl jim but not as we know it! ROFL
The adsl is hardwired to your house via the phone lines to your modem which is then sent through a router(this can be in 1 box or as in my house 2 separate) to transmit the message wirelessly localy through to the rest of the house. Depending upon the router you could have your computer in the study directly cable linked to the router so it gets better speed and the modem/ phone operating via the router wirelessly.
The adsl to your house through phone lines and a modem/ router is far better than a pure wireless connection from a distant source as you get much better reaction time .Ask any gamer.

I reckon that makes sense as with my Linux connection it comes up as a eth0 connection, ethernet wired.
I love having the go anywhere wireless voip phone, phone cords are never long enough. And the emailed phone messages means I can turf the old answering machine
    It's a win win situation.
I was a bit worried about unknown users hacking into my connection though. I can set up the WPA2 on windows but can't on linux.

we are moving house and optus can't service us at the new address so we are getting a visit from BoB. Hope he's good...

Only thing I am annoyed about is having to change my email address.

We'd had ADSL2+ from iiNet for about a year when naked came out. We've been naked now for nearly two years, and loving it. We have a regular cordless phone / answering machine plugged into the router - works a treat. And the odd time we're on the phone when someone else calls, the voicemail emails the message to us. No line rental, good rates, most calls free, shaping instead of excess fees, quite a bit of good stuff not counting to usage allowance - all good.
Possible negatives: no phone book entry - doesn't worry me, our friends all have our number (didn't change); occasional dropouts - pretty rare, and we have mobiles as a backup in an emergency; can't use some services like iq or monitored alarm - no sweat, don't have any of them. I would like to have a simple setup to easily send and receive faxes though.
I also like that it is operating-system agnostic - windows, linux, Mac, whatever. Actually iiNet have quite a significant number of Mac customers (and the CEO has a Mac himself).

Unfortunately true for all isp changes, that is probably the biggest hassle when changing providers . I added a sig to all outgoing emails with our new email address's on it and set it up well before we switched so everyone we emailed regularly new we were changing emails.

Although I generally happy with BoB. I have had issues and have cotacted iinet support 9 times now trying to resolve the issue.

Iinet know there is a problem with some BoB Hand sets. and Belkin the maker of BoB has provided firmware upgrades to try and address this problem

What happens in my case, I recieve a call , the hand set rings... I press the receive button (like you do on a mobile phone). Then there is nothing, so I press it again and if the caller hasn't hung up in the mean time is still there, then all is ok.
BUT any other incoming calls that day will flash on my router , but the hand set does not ring!.
The only way to fix it is to power down the router and restart. Then the phone will work ok for maybe 24 hours then the fault reoccurs all over again. Or I need to reboot after every call
They intend to replace my handset but no stock until another week.
Apart from this Major problem all else is great

    Thumbs up

We're using iiNET for a lot of our smaller customers now. Much better change from bigpond/optus/tpg - and because they get the business grade packs, they can also get Annex-m - which means nice beefy uploads as well. I have one customer sync'n at 2.4 meg which is awesome - makes the option of running VPNs for offsite workers very nice.

Have also had some reasonable success running VOIP over their links (haven't used BoB though) using a product called 3CX (Free Voip PBX) and some linksys handsets. From all reports, BoB works rather nicely and if you don't care about the fringe benefits (i.e whitepages listing etc) then its a much better alternative.

    Cheers,
    -Adam.

I had BoB delivered yesterday afternoon. Unfortunately the courier company were not very nice to him and the box was severly damaged so I was very hesitent when I plugged him him.

I get a wireless connection from my pc to BoB but no connection from Bob to the net. Any calls received also have a fair bit of interference.

So after a couple of weeks waiting while the connect the phone, sort out a problem with the line in the street, send BoB and try to connect I am still waiting.

I have been onto support this morning and they are going to send me a new one. Hopefully better luck second time round.

Oh yeah, no waiting if you call support at 5:50 am

Well after 10 calls to support re my no ring problem, the 3rd version of firmware update seems to have fixed it.fingers xxxxxed
now all I need is them to fix the other problems like having to press the answer button 2 times to receive the caller, and when dialing out I have to dial up to 3times as I get "the number you have called in not in service recording" before i get to connect
I emailed support 2 days ago and still no answer, I have better things to do than ring them all the time.
They still take my money each month on direct debit though.

Bob is great when working, not so great when it gives problems
