what happens when the pic links break?

just an idle thought thats been bugging me.

Theres a lot of threads in here that have a lot of links to peoples photobucket accounts for the pics of the descriptions.

What happens if photobucket dies or all the links get changed for some stupid reason (like the photobucket website gets renamed)?

would there be any percentage in trying to get the pics shifted to the attachments section in the arcives?

another side note is what happens to pics in peoples personal galleries and attachements in here if for some reason their profile gets deleted? would it be worth having an archive for the tech section so that pics relevent to fixing things in theory should never be lost.

or am I just over thinking things?

    Or the owner moves/renames/deletes them?

Usually that results in an image holder with a red diagonal cross in it.

This can also happen if the image hosting site is a tad slow in handing out the image. Usually a refresh or right click and view image will over come that.

    cheers

Certainly is annoying when viewing a tech thread and all the photos are gone.
As to what is the best way around it I don't know.

I keep all mine in Photobucket so I don't have to reload the same images for use on various websites.

this is more what I was thinking of, especially for threads that are linked from the good oil.

I link all mine to photobucket mainly because its easy, and if I want to use them in more than one place its far easier than having to attatch them everywhere.

I dont necessarily want pics attatched to forums either, and it means if I did want to delete them I can do it easily.

Works better for archives to have the pics posted on site.

Also works to download to a pdf and save as an attachment to the post.
