Thread: Will VPN allow access to file on Server (via mapped drive)?

When I have done it, I have given the vpn connection a different network address (if the main network is 192.168.1.XXX I will set the vpn to hand out 192.168.25.XXX to each end of the connection for example) Then to connect to the share I type \\192.168.25.XXX\sharename

I don't know if this helps but it was the only way it worked for me

OK - thanks for that - will give it a try.

I also turned off the Windows firewall but that made no difference.

It is very frustrating to see the connection there, yet not be able to browse the hard drive

Do the subnet masks have to be the same (i.e. one ends in .0 the other in .255)

Focus on getting pinging working as your first step, if you can't ping you wont be able to map a drive since it needs the IP connectivity in place to work over.

Agree that it'll be easier to troubleshoot the vpn connection if you put it on a different IP address range as it'll make it much clearer what traffic is to be sent over the VPN to the remote machine and make the routing much more simple.

I'm connected via iphone and bluetooth to the internet and using the internet as the transport.

The relevent adapater is the ras at 192.168.25.20 on the server and the PPP at 192.168.25.21 on the client.
