Exactly. I went from CP/M to Dos 3.1 to 98 to Mandrake to Suse 9.0 -> 10.0 to Kubuntu 8.04, two releases behind at present.

I tested Vista and it sucked, Windows 7 RTM runs a lot better than Pista ever did. I'm quite happy with it. The driver issues are solved by loading either XP or Vista drivers.

You can get the same "10 CD keys for almost any MS product deal for $199" ish US dollars on ebay. With the exchange rate the way it is at the moment it's dirt cheap. Just search for MSDN.

I bought it mainly for the office and installed then ditched Windows 7 and went back to Ubuntu. 7 is miles better than Vista but not as good as Ubuntu Linux in my humble opinion.

Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Pro are 64bit (add heaps of memory - Adobe recommend 16GB ).

I'm running Windows 7 32 bit on my Laptop, runs fine, installed fine, I don't even think its crashed yet. I don't know how people have so much trouble with Vista, I've used it for a few years now without any problems, (once the stupid safety warnings were disabled). Windows 7 probably uses 25% less RAM to run than Vista from what I can tell on the Lappy, about the same as XP.

I do agree that M$ software is overpriced, especially M$ Office, that's just crazy $$$! Even Windows 7 Starter Edition is too expensive in my opinion, however if you want a fast, cut down OS it's pretty good. One day I'll expand my horizons and try the Apple OS, but for now I'm happy to be part of the flock and continue using M$ Windows.

Don't want to sound like any sort of smarta$$, but really if you use a Mac all of the stuff that is losing you sleep or whatever else with this issue is a non-event. MS should issue medals for persistence.

I totally agree. Unfortunately the majority of the expensive applications that I run will not under Mac OS.
I know that there are emulators that will run these apps under Mac OS but not as well as natively. With the new Macs that run Intel CPUs, you have the choice to either run Mac OS or Windows, so I guess that this will possibly be my next purchase.

I can't believe how PC users put up with all this nonsense, unless they're closet masochists. The Aulro AVG thread is another classic.

BTW everything in MS Office for Mac runs just fine on my Macbook.

Nothing ever goes wrong with Mac, does it - you just loose all your personal data occasionally due to bugs in the Mac OS.

What does all the above mean - the true answer is nothing other than there are bugs in the Apple OS and there are bugs in the MS OS and the reality is that users of both systems have problems - some serious, some trivial.

However, every now and then someone from one or the other camps pops up to bore us with their views that product X or company Y is infallible. Usually the inference is that "if you aren't using what I'm using then you must must be stupid". Debates along these lines contribute nothing other than causing tension.
