But getting onto viruses, OS X has all the security flaws, exploits, whatever, etc that UNIX does, but these exploits are rarely taken advantage of because hackers really do target MS as they see Bill Gates as some sort of corporate Anti-christ. Seriously.
A target base of 75 million, and not one... ever?? Ever?? Ever? Really??? Just because all the bad guys hate MS?? At least that one is a change from "all the viruses are from mac users writing them"!

All the flaws of UNIX???? Really???

I just know I'm wasting my time so I'll only waste a little of it. UNIX based OS's have a very different structure and strict permission systems as they were built for much larger multi user systems, hence, they are very easy to tie down effectively. The OS is also effectively very basic, so they only do what they have to do, which means they don't enable every potential security vulnerability just in case someone needs it. As a general rule, the UNIX default is OFF.

You better hope UNIX is secure as it is at the heart of most military computer systems...

Anyway... this is about MS charging for something that they should be giving to their customers for free as compensation...

If anyone is about to write and say it's aliens that write the viruses and they do that because that's what they use on their space ship.. or they hate Bill Gates - think of something else because I'm ready for that one..

That's an interesting take. So buffer overflow exploits are not a flaw because by default you should have these services off. By the same token, brute force attack vulnerabilities can't be considered a flaw?

    LOL

So far as I'm aware, there aren't many brute force attacks against individuals PC's. I was trying to help with a simple explanation. Remember... MS viruses are written by aliens... amongst others...

FWIW almost all new ATMs now are windows based (or fully embedded for the really lofi ones)

Re MS vs Apple security - Apple users take note: MacOS is the most insecure operating system in common use today. Apple do not have the focus on security within the development lifecycle that MS have and it shows. Apple are also very slow at fixing security vulnerabilies and even snow leopard doesn't have the simple security features built into it that have been around in MS land since XPSP2.

and I'm saying this as an apple user.
