Also, re the default services, this isn't strictly a UNIX thing, but a distrubution thing. There are only two operating systems that still have off by default for most things: OpenBSD and Windows Server 2008.

unfortunatly Apple software is full of things that are on that are not needed.

Interesting... my brand new Solaris 10 Zones at work seem to have virtually everything switched off.

So, if Apple have all these problems, and are lagging in security, why are there very few security issues? Why is this the same for all the other Unix/linux variants? Perhaps you could explain it to everyone better than I have in my paragraph.

Please don't say aliens only write viruses for MS as they hate Bill..

Wow you are so wrong I don't know what to say. I mean [sputtering] you can't can't compare the security features as you put it between two OSs and say that because one doesn't have the same as another it must be weaker. They are different architectures.

I installed 7 under Parallels on my Mac Book Pro and it seems to be working ok. I really do dislike the idiot guides to performing tasks. Just give me access to the app's I need thanks MS. But yeah, it seems to be behaving itself. Haven't had much time to dig into its bowels yet

well im not going to get involved with the battle of the geeks argument but if it wasn't for my wife, i would use Linux
cant afford apple and im not ghey enough
sick of ms xp and wont be buying a os as long as i can get a better os for free

They design windows like that as most of the general users are basically computer illiterate, MS are trying to limit the amount of accidental damage that can be done. I think it is a good thing

I have been in the IT industry for over 10 years (not in retail) and I get sick to death of all the MAC V MS V Unix (linux) All have there purposes! A general user will struggle to use a unix system, and most IT support personel have only windows experience. To say that a MAC is the best for all situations is just down right blind! I could list off security floors and faults for all of the above, but I just dont get into the arguements anymore. I have my own personal preference, but usually recommend the system that best suits the particular user.
