If the only reason you are keen to mortgage your house to buy a Mac is that you are paranoid about viruses, why don't you just install Linux on your existing machine. Then you will have the same freedom from viruses as Mac users.Quote:

Actually, Macs are not that much dearer than a decent PC and I use both, I have to because there are a number of commercial and industrial CAD programs that are either not available or, the Mac version is so dear that it is HEAPS cheaper to by a PC and the PC version of the program and still have load of cash left over, than it is to buy the Mac version.
This is the exact reason I bought my first PC. I had been using Macs for about 2 years, from 1987 and the only Mac CAD program at the time for what I needed was something like $US4,500 so I bought an IBM Aptiva and the PC CAD program for a total of about $2,300.
As far as problems go, when everything is working right, the Macs are far easier to use than a PC, but need to do anything out of the ordinary and my Macs cause far more headaches for my business than my PCs do, but then again that’s why I have Incisor's phone number on Speed Dial.
Back to cost comparisons. Macs come with loads of up market programs as standard and the average home user usually doesn’t need anything else whereas by the time you buy a PC and get programs of the same calibre as the Macs, your PC is not much cheaper.
One more point, I have never had a viruses problem but for protection against viruses, NONE of my PCs are connected to the net and and all my Macs are and I have never installed an anti viruses program to any of my Macs.
Also, thanks to a freebie program called Neo Office ( and thanks to Incisor for telling me about it ) My Macs will work with any PC based files or documents sent to me.

Why do most Apple v Windows conversations end up being about hardware?? Apple is NOT A HARDWARE company, 99% of Mac components are third party manufacturers... (Intel, Sony, nVidia etc)
Apple is a distribution company, that just happens to have some very funky industrial designers and an absolute genius running the show (unlike "Monkey Man" over at MS). Most of its coffers are filled by media distribution points, and that was setup ten years ago with the rise and rise of the iPod, OSX, ITMS and other distribution points apple has realised what most other silicon valley juggernauts just can't get a grip of.... distribution of media and content is where the money is made!
Have a look at the latest news out of CES, Apple doesn't even turn up! The latest buzz is all about "tablets" and "e-readers". Apples' product is only a rumour at this stage, yet still gets compared to other products in reviews.
Once again, this product is not a comp of who has the biggest "d*ck" it is going to be about the ability to distribute the content to the device... and something tells me that HP or.... Dell or MS or HTC isn't going to even get a look in!
