V8 Exhaust

I went for Genie tuned extractors, 2 5/8" single system straight through exhaust and no resinator.

The only reason why it uses more fuel is because I had so much fun with the loud pedal. More power more torque and if driven conservatively better fuel consumption, but I dont drive conservatively.

and it sounds ssssoooooooooo much better, like really better

I have an 81" RRC extractors, no middle box, standard rear box.
Sounds good to me, not overly loud IMO

Yesterday while towing the loaded car trailer up a hill north of gin gin there was a strange smell inside the D1. Pulled up at the top, had a look around and found the rear muffler last hanging by a thread, (of rust). So I kicked it off as it was hot and carried on and the smell had gone. The noise!! It was ok when coasting along on the flat at 96 but as soon as we came to the hills and the V8 started to work, it was like having an F18 under the bonnet. It goes in today to get a new mufffler fitted to the rear.

A few RRC's back I did a 4.6 with Haltech and a very good friend owned a exhaust shop on Regency rd here in SA.
I did him a contra deal with a few cartons of wine and he did a killer system for me.
The car was there for 2 weeks during the quiet period for him and he had his apprentice doing most of the work I guess.
It was a custom full stainless mandrel bend system, extractors the lot.
Mufflers were Remus which came off a Merc 500SL where the new owner found them too loud and they fitted perfectly.
I/he did a 2.5 inch system and it was a work of art.
The mufflers were actually beautifully tuned and sonded great.
The more revs the better it sounded, not really louder but just like music-to my ears anyhow.
Only problem with stainless is that when I went through water, they cracked twice at the extractor side where it bolts to the heads.

Not sure how much in $$$ it would have been but for a car that you have for keeps, it was great.
He made sure the back pipe went past the body too, otherwise it would/could have droned in his opinion.

Greag was his name and he did a lot of show cars and hot rods etc, I still have not found anyone as passionate about exhausts since, but let me say one thing-- Do not go too loud as the rover motors like to pull at low revs and loud exhausts sound like boats in Land rover guise.

i think mine runs the standard extractors down into a 2 1/4 lukey she sounds like it almost straight thro sounds neat

I am doing alittle research and going by everyones comments i think ill go with a 2.5" system from the Y piece with 1 middle straight thru muffler (500mm long) and no rear resanator, but do i need to run a cat converter?

The answer is no, you do not need a cat on a D1.

Hi mate I know this is an old post but just wondering who the bloke in Capalaba is we are looking to put a full system on our disco 2 and as mentioned in some of these posts some shops get weird when it's a Disco I think if it's not a Toyota or Nissan they don't want to know about it.
