Question disco 3.9 V8 in to tdi

Hi there all,I am needing some advice please.I am looking at buying a 92 tdi discovery minus the engine and transmission and transfer for my 86 rangie classic thats getting a bit tired around the edges. My rangie has a 98 disco 3.9 V8 on gas with the ZF 4 speed auto and LT 230 transfer which are all in great condition and want to put them in to the discovery.I am aware the chassis engine mounts need changing as do the fuel system and electrics. What I would like to know is if the transmission chassis mounts are the same due to the discovery being a diesel and a manual transmission and could I use the rangie crossmember. Also can I use my rangie drive shafts. Any other advice also anyone can share is much appreciated.Cheers Shane.

If your going for a early model Disco, why not have a later mod 1998, saw on one ebay starting $800 in ACT, looks very straight and clean.
Only thing is you will have to install the V8 looms as TDI don't have the amount of electrics if you want to convert.plus the obvious like mounts etc

You could keep the RR chassis & plonk the Disco body on top.

Scott is correct: the wheelbases are the same and in fact the Disco was based on the Rangie chassis. Should be a lot less work, unless the Rangie chassis is rotten?

Thanks Scott, good idea.My rangie chassis is in perfect condition and I think that would be fairly straight forward and easier. Also it will be easier as far as engineering certificates go.It always pays to put these ideas out there and get another perspective on things.Cheers Shane.

Check with your engineer first just to be on the safe side. As long as both cars are legitimate (not on any written off vehicle register) then you should be OK.

There will be some differences to overcome though. Nothing major that I can think of though. The fuel filler hose will need to be adapted for one (or you can fit the Disco tank & brackets to the RR chassis).
