    Indicator Stalk

Ok, been having some issues with my indicator stalk. It's a late 1993 discovery.

The main problem is the high beams. indicators and headlight switch are fine. pull the lever to flash on the high beams and it's fine. Push to turn them on and all lights turn off.

Is the indicator stalk the problem?

Can they be pulled apart. I took it out and gave it a clean with contact cleaner and that helped a little, but uoi can feel that the contacts for the high beams don't feel like they are in the right place.

Costs on replacement, source of replacement or tips on how to open it up?

My 96/7 has a similar problem,, I've just picked up a second hand one from here, which includes the wiper stalk for about $50 if I recall rightly. I was told you can just remove the one stalk and just replace that, without having to remove the steering wheel,,, just two small screws and an electrickery connection thingy,, I'll be doing it soon

Well, It just died again, high beam on push works, but not pull, low beam no go at all.

I pulled it apart and found melted internals.

Off to find another one again..... STC865 this time, I think the last time may not have been the right bit as there were some small differences noticed on it.

After you fit a new one , buy or make a relay driven circuit for the headlights, as currently all the power goes through the switch.
You can then fit stronger headlights if you want and in any case they will be much brighter.

If you need another indicater stalk, get one from the UK. They do not use them.

Actually the best price I found came out of the USA, a little cheaper than the UK, and all cheaper than locally.

I was going to pull out a wiring diagram today to see if the power went through the switch the same as the series 3 did, I can't believe a vehicle of this age doesn't have a relay built in!! Might have to get a upgrade kit from drivesafe.

    G'day Phillip,,
Being the nuff nuff that I am with electrics ,, exactly how does one do something like this? Also, is this a similar issue in the D2, as I have one of these too, and I must say, the lights are crap in this. There're bright, but nowhere near as wide or as distant as the D1.
