Thread: Tyres on standard rims

I think 265/75/16 would be the most you would want to fit to 16 x 7" rims. They will tuck under nicely but will rub on full lock at the front. You will also need a 2" lift and camel cut at the rear to stop rubbing. 235/85/16 is about the same diameter but a bit narrower so may not rub on to steering. There is plenty of tyre info in the Good Oil secton or do a search.

265/75/16 are a perfect fit but you will need a lift and a camel cut trim to the rear of the rear guards. This photo is before a 3" lift was fitted.

i have 31" x 11.5" maxxis mudzillas on my standard rims I have no rubbing. Exept when on full lock at the front but i have 50mm coil spacers fitted all round. if interested i can post pics.

Im running 235/85/16 tyres on the stock 98 disco mags (not sure if different to steels) and you DO need to reduce your steering lock, and with my 2" lift they do rub on the inner guards and the body panels.

I have had to do a camel cut, plus bend and fold the sheet metel (about 2cm) at the front of the rear wheel arch.
The tyres still rub on the inner guard at the top at full articulation, so ill need extended bump stops too.

Im considering going down a tyre size to 245/75/16's which are a more common size, and hopefully they wont rub on the inner guards.

The 245's being wider are more likely to rub ob the guards wheras a 235/85 is more likely to rub in the inner guards due to the taller aspect ratio.

probably didnt explain myself properly - the rubbing im getting now is on the inner guard (not the bodywork) since the 235/85 tyre is very tall.
i dont have an issue anymore with the tyres rubbing on the body work.

I believe you should get more steering lock with the 245/75 compared to the 235/85. the 245 is only 10mm wider, (ie 5mm per side) but its a only 774mm tall compared to the 235 which is 806mm tall (ie 15mm taller radius).
I believe that the extra 15mm height of the 235/85 is worse that the extra 5mm width of the 245/75.
