Help!!! how do I fix faulty key remotes?

    Good evening All,
Have just become the owner of a 97 Disco 1 Tdi SE after about a year of looking for an S that was hopefully available nearby in FNQ. Couldn't find one close by ( plenty in Victoria and Tasmania though!!) so got the SE from Brisbane. Flew down from cairns on saturday morning and drove it back home to the atherton tablelands by sunday night.
Have now found that the remote locking control on the keys don't seem to work properly. (Previous owner assured me that they did) They sometimes work but generally don't and after reading the owners manual apparently you should use the key remote to lock and unlock the door to properly arm the security system. (This is why I wanted an S model as I hate electrickery). Anyway bought some new batteries and replaced them in the remotes but the bloody thing still doesn't work properly. Where to from here? Has anyone had this problem before? Is it the remotes or is it the "control box" on the vehicle that is the problem? Would be extremely grateful for any help/advice. Hoping it's not going to cost a bomb to fix this problem as I have $1200 worth of Bilstein shocks and king springs in the back of the truck to go on this weekend as I convinced the missus that they would be much more worth the money.
    Many Thanks
    Dave

    Hi Mate
Try cleaning contacts under buttons, good to see your minister of finance is very understanding allowing you to spend your money wisely, on such things as suspension upgrades. Furthermore, allowing you to fit the kit over the Easter weekend, extremly understanding.
    Cheers Bob
