Anyone else have any problems going up hill's in the 300Tdi Disco???

Went for a drive couple of days ago and started to go up a steep hill when i only got to roughly 40 - 50 kph. one it straight out it went fine. i have noticed it before and heared it might have been the fuel lift pump but i changed that and it seems to still have troubles getting up there. anyone else have this problem and maybe a fix???

Only when towing, going up the western highway towards Bacchus Marsh speed would drop down to 70kph with the trailer on and roughly 200-250kg plus the trailer weight. Coming back it was only a couple of times the speed to die down to 70-80kph but mostly was ablw to keep to 110-115.

I've just brought one, with 162k's on the clock, which is certainly sluggish on hills but not quite as bad as yours. I initially thought it could be just the sheer weight of the thing, but I looked at all the usual suspect's dirty air filter and so on, but I'm wondering whether the turbo is delivering the full boost.

Well i did all the same checks and everything is all good. if it wasnt delivering full boost wouldnt it do the same while driving normaly??? funny thing is it just does it while going up hills but it depends on the serverty of the hill. i usual have to get the speed up and hope to make it over but it drops drasticaly once i hit the middle of the hill to about 70 - 80k. dont understand it.

Regarding the turbo boost output, without it the engine is pretty well a normally aspirated engine and going along the flat probably wouldn't be a problem. I'm only suggesting this to be an issue, as before getting the right sort of 4x4 I had a Toyota HJ61 which had the same sort of issue and that was fixed by a turbo overhaul-which was very expensive. Hope the other clever members can resolve the fault, so that we are both the wiser.

Mine does it when loaded with camping gear on steep long hills. Can sometimes end up back at 80 or so in 4th. But certainly not 40 or 50. Even with a trailor I didn't get that.

Got to get the run up...

One of the hills on greendale/trentham rd headed for the springs. Thought you can't change it in an auto?

It can be difficult to get a nice relationship between ground speed and engine speed in the autos (largely because of the huge step between 4th locked up 3rd unlocked evermore showing the need for a 3rd gear lock up.)

Some people bury their foot in Fourth locked up and let it lose speed (die) until it hits 80 and unlocks.

Others pre-empt and select third and let it rev like mad.

It'd be great if like most other cars and newer Discos it simply unlocked when the boot was put in a little.

Only once it's droped that low but like on the western hwy at 110k she drops to about 80k then kicks in once under. But will not go to 100 until the road flattens out.
