Does the base of the brake fluid reservoir have to be totally flush with the seals?
Okay it's Friday n ight and I'm not working on my car anymore, it can go to hell!
I've been trying to replace the little seals under the brake fluid reservoir because mine were old and really really perished and hence leaking. I got the kit today and pulled it off and hey presto went to put in the seals but the back one (the trouble one) was really hard to get in and then when I did get it in it looked all squashed up when I looked down into it??? Like the little hose from the master cylinder was squashing up the seal and not quite going into the hole properly or the seal was getting squashed up trying to fit into the little sleeve...either way it looked squashed and hence the reservoir wouldn't fit into the back seal.
After many MANY tries at putting it in I held something blunt into it to try and keep it open a little bit and squashed it in there good and it looked like it was still nice and round and not squashed (my fingers are now hurting like hell) and the reservoir nearly went in all the way but I still can't get both seals perfectly flush with the bottom of it.
It seems like it's in really well and it's not about to come out in a hurry. There is probably just 2 or 3mm space between the back seal and the bottom of the reservoir that I can't push down, but if I rock it backwards a bit it looks like it goes into the back one more and then comes out just as much from the front one. Should I worry about this or is this just what happens with the new kits and I should be happy about a job well done and give my fingers a rest
I'm putting it to bed for now and I'm going to sit down with my slightly agitated wife and watch whatever's on...so long as it takes my mind off the car!!!
