    Disco 1, 2"lift measurements

Hi guys, I have a 2" inch lift fitted to my Disco 1 but since putting all my accessories on in has dropped a bit and looks a bit low for my liking. I like the ride so instead of fitting new springs was looking at putting coil spacers in to regain some height.
What I'm after is the measurement from the center of the hub to the bottom of the guard lip on none cut guards, or bump stop gap if guards are modified. I want to know what size spacers to fit to get it back to height. I think at the moment my front is 485mm and rear 515mm. I'm thinking 50mm in the front and 30mm in the rear, would this be right.
Also are there any negatives in fitting coil spacers, I know new coils would be preferred but cost a lot more. If I do fit heavier coils do I loose articulation and get a harsher ride.
    Any info appreciated.
    Cheers, David.

You may have to extend your bump stops if you are fitting 50/30mm spacers to lifted coils. you dont want the coil to fully compress before you hit the bumpstop, you would likely break the coil.

If you fit heavier coils they should be suited to your car (ie include the weight of your bulbars, accessories etc.), so they dont decrease the comfort of the car.

You can check mine out next week when we go for our drive,, If you cant wait that long, I'll find a tape and get them for you,,,

I have heavy duty in the back which took it higher than the 2" inch mark. This was to allow for the extra weight thats going to be added on by the roof rack and tent etc,, (which I still haven't got yet).

The job was done by Pedders, (which no-body seems to think are any good ,never hear anyone mention them). But as I follow other Discos, they seem to get "kicked" around quite violently which doesn't look too comfy,,So all in all, I'm more than happy with what I have.

Coil bind is the biggest risk with spacers... If the coil binds solid before the bump stop you'll crack the chassis.

Heavier springs take into account the mass they are now suspending and flex accordingly (simplified).... Its about achieving the right balance.

Being in Melb, contact Les Richmond Automotive, he will have suitable coils for your needs (including light rates etc) which will be far superior to those horrible poly spacers...

Thanks for the info guys, I was trying for the quick cheap easy way out but looks like I'll have to bite the bullet and go for new springs. The coil spacers will probably cost around $100 and new Dobinson are around $330 a set. I talked the the guys at LRA and can get a set for $440. If I don't like the ride they will swap them for others. Lots of people here seem to use Dobinsons and are happy with them, would the extra money for the LRA ones be worth it. I'll give suspensionstuff a call to see what they recommend.

Chops I'll bring a tape measure along when we head out and get a few measurements on the day from the guys cars, Wont get anything done before the anyway.
    Cheers, David.

No worries Dean, when I find some results I'll put the up, I should be a good reference for people to check what they have.
    Cheers, David.

Thanx, the measurements will be taken, hub to gaurd I take it.
    Cheers Dean.
Ps , just did a search & JC reckons standard measurements r 470 for both.
Just measured mine, 470 front/500 rear. Its supposed to have a 2" lift.
Maybe it did b4 the winch, winchbar, dual batteries, drawer system, roof rack, etc, etc were fitted.

Yes Dean, center of hub to gaurd.

I did things backward as well. Got the car and was keen to lift it not expectings to put much else on it. But you know how it is, once you start it's hard to stop. I was very happy with the lift when I first put it in but adding everything it looks a bit lower. I can't find my original measements after the lift but it went up 65mm from where it was. Going out with a few guy this weekend to so I will start a list.
    Cheers, David.

No worries David, just to clarify, I bought the car the way it was & assumed thats what happened.
    Cheers Dean.
