It could be the brushes have worn down & not making contact at certain speeds.
Or it could just be a loose connection. How's the tacho (that gets it's signal from the alternator) ?
This is my first of probably many future posts!
Recently the battery light has been flicking off and on and some times staying on for 30 seconds. It happens at different times - at 100kph and while at slower 50 to 60kph and then does not do it for weeks at a time.
The car is running ok, starts first time - can anyone suggest were to start looking or possible problems?
Is it possible to by parts to service an alternator, eg brushes, regulator rather than replacing the whole unit. Where can I get the bits from?
Can anyone help?
Best regards

Thanks Scott,
The Tacho is fine, the engine idles at about 900rpm most of the time, has a few moments when it dips below (I think that will be another post sometime), I'll check the brushes and all connections and post another update once done.
Any suggestions on where I can get new brushes? Bursons / Repco maybe?
best regards
Anthony
Hey mine does the "idle then dips below" thing too but I didn't think it was anything to worry about...I'll be keeping a lookout for your future post![]()
I've always found auto-electricians are the best source of alternator and starter motor parts. Find one who is an authorised supplier for the particular brand of alternator.

My D1 does this exact same thing, I have just replaced alternator and battery less than a month ago. Also my tacho flickers when the battery light comes on, any thoughts??
Timmy
Timmy assuming the altenator was brand new i would be checking connections and terminals for clenliness security and tightness also wiring for damage and shorting to ground etc , to me a charge light flickering and tacho not working when it happens indicated not much of a signal coming from the altenator , provided its brand new it "should" be ok however ive had new components fail before or be faulty from day dot. hope this gives you somewhere to start. hope this is of some assistance
