    Reverse light kinda working...help!

Since I've owned my Disco, I always thought vision was pathetic from the reverse lights but now I know why! I was just swapping the cars around in the driveway and mum noticed that the reverse lights (in the main cluster) weren't coming on. They only do when I pull back hard on the gear lever while reverse is engaged. Before I break my foot off in the rwc dude's ass (this will be the 3rd time he's not done his job properly btw), I just want to be clear on a few things...what would be causing this, what's involved in fixing it, etc.

I had this exact thing happen with mine when i first got it... then not long after that the center plate cracked on the top of the gearbox... so maybe yours is on its way out?

    I hope this helps...

he's in Vic and the car needs to meet the relevant adr's for when the car was built to pass a rwc. I'm pretty sure by 1975 a reverse light was mandatory.

I had that - 1997 TDi300 Disco. Replaced the sensor on the gearbox. All good since then.

Wasn't very expensive (got my mechanic to do it, so not sure how fiddly it is).

Mine did it too. Replaced the switch and fixed it, as the end of the switch wears. I noticed too that the "thing" (can't remember what) that actuates the switch had some wear too. Possibly build up with weld, but like I said, replacing the switch will fix...

Thanks for the great replies fellas!

I'm taking the Disco to Norm, my dads mechanic who's extremely switched on and I can trust. After the tard 'Land Rover specialist' (who shall remain un-named) has stuffed so many things up and taken weeks to sort issues out (chomping into my time to build up the Disco for my trip), I've been stressing hard with things still not done properly or over-looked. The number of issues I've had to sort through poor workmanship on their part has been utterly disgusting! I can do the work myself but have SO many things to do before moving interstate in a couple of weeks, and this kind of thing just adds to the pressure.

Like was mentioned by a few of you, Norm reckoned it'd be a switch and a simple fix, so will get him to sort it next week while I'm at work...especially as I need to pick up a few goodies he's ordered in for me. Hehehe!

As I recall it, it's a screw-in switch so it may have become loose & moved outwards.
