    Larger intercooler installation 300Tdi

Just scored a big intercooler for nicks as the guy didn't need it anymore but it's a front mount. Has anyone installed a front mount cooler the there disco 300tdi? I k ow it's going to take some mods to do and that's no problem just wondering if anyone has picks of there's? Will be picking it up on tuesday so I don't have any picks.

Yes I have done in my D1. Had to modify the radiator support panel, plus move the grille frontwards by about 2 inches.
I then had overheating trouble when towing so I upgraded the radiator. However, it still overheats when towing and hot days. I wouldn't recommend it. I will be going for a glycol unit when I have the funds. They retail for about $1300...

That's weird for it to over if anything shouldn't it keep it cooler? Guessing it might have to do with how big the intercooler core is. Is there a limit in intercooler sizes maybe that a 300tdi can only take? Guess these are the questions I need to ask before trying to put it in.

Oh, no doubt the charged air was cold, but the coolant temp was very high (according to the dash guage).
Like I said, its something I wouldn't do again, even with a freebie.
    Go the glycol...

Not weird, if you place a large restriction in front of the rad of course the temps will rise. Only way around it would be to fit a V8 size rad and a narrow IC so that it doesnt block the whole rad.

Thought of the same thing but was nit going to mount it on the front, didn't take any measurments but from eye it seems to fit where the old cooler is, with a few modifications mind you here and there. Might have to relocate the power steering resi and anything else around there.

I wonder if you can fit an overhead type IC ?

When I ordered my new IC from TRS, I 1st did some research, its not always the size that matters(sure we heard that before) but the quality and airflow characteristics from what I gathered.

Mine fitted perfectly where old one was and did make a noticeable difference when together with silicone hoses, and pump tweak the diesel tuner ran it up on the dyno.
I think it got 65kw's at the wheels. I was happy.

I also wanted it to still look standard and not have to cut too much out and move stuff around.
If I ever sell it, that would be a bonus so the next person has a nice neat and tidy engine bay and if it goes interstate, it would pass any test.
